Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Jordon Smith Wins in the Motor City
DETROIT (March 25, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Jordon Smith collected his first career win on Saturday night in front of more than 46,000 fans inside Ford Field. Smith’s teammate, Alex Martin did not lineup for the night program following a practice incident that would force him to the sidelines.
Having earned his spot in the main event through a win in the Last Chance Qualifier, Smith got off to a strong start, battling with the leaders from the drop of the gate. Following some intense racing up front he would move into the lead on Lap 14, relinquishing it temporarily before making an impressive move on the final lap to secure the victory.
“Today was pretty incredible,” said Smith. “Despite having to go through the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) I was able to get a good start in the main and race with the leaders early on. The track was really tough so I just focused on hitting my lines and was in the right position on the last lap to take the win. It’s an amazing feeling and I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!”
Following his win, Smith has moved into second place in the championship points standings just nine points out of the lead.
Next weekend, the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team will be headed to The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis for Round 7 of the Eastern Regional Championship.
Smith and Martin wore the GP 50/50 Red Racewear during practice and then Smith wore the GP Quest Red and White Racewear en route to his main event win. The gear was accompanied by the SE4 Pinstripe Black helmet. See all of the 2017 gear sets and the 2017 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
