Anaheim, Calif. (January 21, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath picked up valuable points during the final Southern California stop of the season with a solid third-place finish in front of huge crowd inside Angel Stadium. With his podium finish, McElrath holds the coveted red plate with a six-point lead over second in the overall Western Regional 250SX Class standings.
After a week full of rain that drenched the area, it was a welcomed sunny day that greeted the riders for Round 3 of the series. McElrath was focused on keeping his points lead and started the night off right with a second place finish in the heat race. He got out to a nice start inside the top five and steadily worked his way up to eventually finish third on the night.
“Everyone was going fast today and I felt like I rode my best,” said McElrath. “I am happy to get a solid finish and hold onto the red plate. I am so thankful for all the support I’ve received and we’ll keep at this going to Phoenix.”
The KTM Jr. Supercross Challenge was on-track in Anaheim, giving the crowd a great look at the future of the sport. Chase Andersen started the race on fire out in the lead, but was eventually overtaken by Mason Mickie. After three solid laps, Mickie came across the finish with the win, followed by Dustyn Davis and Andersen.
