Hard fought weekend for Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha team

Rolling into Gopher Dunes for the second time this year but a for a Supercross event was a first for both the series and track. As usual Gopher Dunes had the facility looking top notch and the Supercross track looked amazing.

Heading in to the first round of Supercross, the team was hit with a few injuries. While testing for Supercross, Sam Gaynor had a crash in a whoop section that forced him to be off the bike for the next 4-6 weeks due to a fractured humerus. With all of this happening we quickly reached out to Logan Leitzel and gave him the opportunity to ride the Yamaha for the last 4 rounds of Supercross.

Friday in qualifying Logan Leitzel was P6.

The show consisted of 2 main events and the chance to earn 25 points each main. When the gate dropped on the first Main Maffenbeier and Leitzel came out of the first turn in 6th and 7th. Logan rode in that position for the entire race putting in solid laps. The second Main even was much like the first and Logan finished 7th.

On the second day of racing, Logan qualified in 7th. In the first main, he started in the top 5. Logan showed good pace and once again finished in 7th. In the second Main event Leitzel was feeling the best they had all weekend. Logan burst out of the gate drop and grabbed the holeshot. Logan put in a solid effort but tightened up part way through the Main and finished in 7th.

Quote from team manager Steve Simms: “Rounds one and two were overall a successful weekend. Both guys got through it without injury and had their best rides in the last moto to work push them into the second weekend. We will do more testing and riding to help both riders get as comfortable on the Supercross track as we can and see where the cards fall for rounds three and four.”
