McElrath Continues Podium Streak With Third-Place Finish
Oakland, Calif. (February 4, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath tallied another podium finish on a grueling track inside O.co Coliseum, collecting a third-place finish. Despite going through the LCQ, McElrath overcame the adversity thrown his way to earn his fifth-straight podium result.
The riders faced a quickly deteriorating track during the early event in Oakland, making it an uphill battle for McElrath. He had a good ride going in the heat race before an incident with another rider brought him down, forcing him to the LCQ. When the gate dropped for the main event, McElrath put himself near the front even after a tough gate pick. He rode strong and tried to minimize the mistakes, coming away with another podium in third.
“Obviously we would want to keep the points lead, but our goal in everything we do is to learn and get better,” said McElrath. “By no means is this championship over with only one point between us. We are safe and we’ll be ready to get back on top of the box next weekend.”
The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team will field its Western Regional rider McElrath one more time in Arlington, Texas before making the switch to the Eastern Regional lineup in mid-February.
McElrath was wearing the SE Gravity Flo Yellow Racewear during practice and then switched it up to the GP 50/50 Gray Racewear for the main event. He also sported the SE4 Pinstripe Black and Gold Helmet. See all of the 2017 gear sets and the 2017 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
